| Our mantle: close up |
As you can see I started decorating for Christmas to get myself out of the post-Thanksgiving slump, and I am pleased with the results thus far. The weather here has been so gloomy lately so I apologize for the mediocre photos. The "natural light" we've had hasn't amounted to much more then some thin sunbeams covered over with gray. But anyway, the mantle has been so much fun and I am sad for all those people who do not have a mantle and therefor can not decorate one. In case anyone was wondering here is a quick breakdown of what I have up there so far: a collection of 4 white vintage trees which were gifted to me by my mother, an antler from pottery barn (on sale!), 2 silver glittered birds, 3 mercury glass votive holders, an old Ball jar I had that I filled with some tiny glittery ornaments from this local shop, a couple little green firs (also from my mother), and a red letter "M" found at an antique shop. I plan on adding a few more things up there although I know it's a fine line between "decorated" and "cluttered." Oh, and the bunting. It's glittered scrapbook paper cut into triangles and hung with embroidery thread. It took about 15 minutes total, including hanging it. Easy peasy.
I still have not finished (i.e. have not started) putting up the tree. We had high hopes of getting a brand new and much taller pre-lit tree but couldn't force ourselves to drop the 200-300$ on one right now, especially considering we still don't have a couch. So now we have a sad little Charlie Brown-ish tree to work with but I suppose there are worse things. I will post some pictures of the tree when its up and hopefully it will look slightly less sad with some lights and ornaments.
Ciao for now.
